Engineers Week 2023 - Middle School Day

The 10th Annual Engineers Week 2023 was held on February 19-25, 2023 and consisted of five days of K-12 outreach to celebrate this year’s theme of Creating the Future. Nikki Zulueta, PE of the Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering (LABOE) and Andrea Mosqueda Gonzalez, PE of Ardurra served as the Engineers Week Chairs.


Engineers Week 2023 served over 800 students, teachers, professionals, and volunteers who joined together to inspire the next generation of engineers. The week consisted of Elementary School Day led by Andres Perez of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), Middle School Day led by Ani Sarkissian of LADWP, High School Day led by Sam Potts, PE of MNS Engineers, Girl Day led by Christine Rice, PE of Wood Rodgers, and Girl Scouts Day led by Gurjot Kohli, PE of Stantec. LABOE and LADWP were Champion Sponsors for Engineers Week 2023.


Middle School Day, led by Ani Sarkissian was held on Wednesday, February 22nd at the La Kretz Innovation Campus and consisted of 100 students from 4 different schools. They heard from Helen Olivares of LADWP and Matthew Noyes of NASA JPL. The students participated in a water filtration project, sponsored by the Metropolitan Water District (MWD) and a pasta tower challenge. They also were able to tour the La Kretz Innovation Campus and learned about various sustainable and technology initiatives the facility offered. ASCE LA YMF awarded four essay scholarships to middle school students.
