Halloween & Dia de los Muertos Celebration

It’s that time of year again! We welcome the holidays and festivities that bring us closer during these unprecedented times. LA YMF wanted to kick off the season with the spooky, strange, scary and fun events of Halloween and ‘Dia de los Muertos’ via zoom! BOO! Members and guests came up with creative ways to celebrate the ‘spook’tacular competition; including costumes, face paint and creative zoom backgrounds. Starting with the Costume contest, Timothy Lee takes second place portraying Pokemon character Ash Ketchum. Then Tiffany Cheng takes first place with an iconic scene from Jurassic Park as Dr. Ellie Sattler.

The celebration continued with the Face Painting contest where our own President Monica Morales took the gold with a Dia de los Muertos skeleton face painting. For the more serious game competitors, the host Christine Rice brought forth the ‘Loteria’ game (or Lottery). This game is similar to the game ‘Bingo!’ in which one marks the specific card they are dealt with different images and whomever matches a row, column or diagonal first with cards that are called out, they say aloud “LOTERIA!” For this race, the win went to Chistina Jones.

Thank you to the participants and donors for being a part of LA YMF’s first virtual celebration of Halloween and Day of the Dead. We raised close to $450 for the Los Angeles Food Bank. Fighting hunger and giving hope to our local neighbors and citizens of the City of Angels.
