Daniel E. Mitchell, P.E., T.E., P.T.O.E.

Transportation Instructor

Mr. Mitchell is an Assistant General Manager and the Chief Engineer for the City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT). He has helped engineers prepare for the Civil PE Exam for over 15 years. He is a licensed Civil and Traffic Engineer, as well as a certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer. Mr. Mitchell holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a master's degree in Transportation Systems Engineering.

Construction Instructor

Mr. McAuliffe is a project manager for a leading Southern California general contractor, where he has successfully helped his team complete aviation, hospitality, mixed-use multi-family housing, and institutional projects throughout Los Angeles. Passionate about maximizing efficiency for all project team members, Mr. McAuliffe is particularly interested in building information modeling (BIM) and the implementation of Lean Construction techniques during the construction phase of the project life-cycle. Mr. McAuliffe also provides consulting services through Argo Construction Consulting and is an instructor at UCLA Extension, where he was awarded the Distinguished Instructor Award for the positive impacts he has made to the construction management certificate program. A California-licensed Professional Engineer, Daniel completed his M.S. Civil Engineering - Construction Engineering and Management from USC and his B.S. Structural Engineering from UC San Diego.

Surveying Instructor

Allan Ng, MSCE, PLS, is a full-time adjunct professor at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, Civil Engineering Department since 2009 and a licensed land surveyor in California. He teaches courses including Surveying Engineering, Satellite Surveying in Engineering, Photogrammetry, Subdivision Engineering and Legal Descriptions, Digital Mapping, California Land and Boundaries Law and consults on boundary surveys and land development projects. Professor Ng is the coordinator for surveying laboratory and multiple geospatial option courses. Professor Ng has extensive knowledge and experience in digital mapping and modeling, as well as application to surveying and engineering projects.

Josh Gebelein, M.S., S.E.

Josh Gebelein, M.S., S.E.

Structural / Seismic Instructor

Mr. Gebelein is a practicing Structural Engineer at Brandow & Johnston, Inc. He holds a Master of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Stanford University and has more than 19 years of experience specializing in earthquake engineering, performance-based design, seismology and applied mathematics. His projects include many iconic structures of Southern California’s landscape such as Wilshire Grand Tower, Metro Exposition Line and Purple Line, Universal Studios Starway Expansion, Disney California Adventure Cars Land Radiator Springs Racers, LAX Theme Building Retrofit, Burbank RITC, UC Irvine Medical Center, and many more. He is a member of ASCE, SEAOC, EERI, AISC and COSMOS. Mr. Gebelein has been teaching PE Review classes for ASCE YMF since 2007, and teaches Timber & Masonry Design at CSULA.

Jeff Kuo, Ph.D., P.E.

Environmental Instructor

Dr. Kuo has a wide variety of experience in environmental engineering. His research and work includes water and wastewater treatment, design and installation of air strippers, activated carbon absorbers, flare/catalytic incinerator, bioremediation systems, and soil venting systems for wastewater treatment as well as groundwater/soil remediation; site assessment and fate analysis of environmental toxins; RI/FS work for landfills and Superfund sites; design of flanged joints to meet the stringent fugitive emission requirements. He holds master's degrees in Chemical Engineering (University of Wyoming), Environmental Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering (USC), and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering (USC). He is a registered civil engineer, chemical engineer, and mechanical engineer in California. Dr. Kuo is currently a professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at CSUF.

Seema C. Shah-Fairbank, Ph.D., P.E.

Water Resources Instructor

Seema C. Shah-Fairbank is an associate professor in water resources at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona.  She teaches courses in introduction to civil engineering, hydrology, hydraulics, and environmental engineering. Seema is currently serving as the faculty advisor for Cal Poly Pomona’s ASCE chapter and as the ASCE Los Angeles Section President.  She has over 16 years of experience in academia and professional practices.  Prior to attending graduate school, she spent a few years as a Design Engineer for RBF Consulting in stormwater management, where she worked on various flood control, hydrology and hydraulics projects.  She completed her graduate studies in Civil Engineering at Colorado State University with a MS in 2006 and a Ph.D. in 2009, where she specialized in sediment transport and river mechanics.

Mehrad Kamalzare, Ph.D., P.E.

Geotechnical Instructor

Dr. Kamalzare is an assistant professor in geotechnical engineering and water resources at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona. He teaches courses in geotechnical engineering and design, and soil mechanics. He has experience in academia and professional practice, specializing in embankment dams and levees, overtopping erosion, deep foundation, geosynthetic reinforcement, and experimental and computational modeling. He also serves as the editor-in-chief of the Journal for Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering and holds professional licensure in the states of California, New York, and Connecticut. Dr. Kamalzare holds a Ph.D. in geotechnical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic University.
