Below is the full timeline for our applications process.
Monday, May 12th - Executive and Appointed Board Applications Open
Saturday, May 31st - Executive Board Applications Due by 11:59 pm
Monday, June 2nd - Executive Board Voting Opens (If Needed)
Saturday, June 14th - Executive Board Voting Closes at 11:59 pm
Monday, June 16th - Executive Board Results Announced

Sunday, August 3rd - Appointed Board Applications Due by 11:59 pm
Monday, August 18th - Appointed Board Announced
Friday-Saturday, September 12-14th - 2025-2026 Officer Board Retreat

EXECUTIVE BOARD

The following six positions are elected roles on the Officer Board and form the YMF Executive Board.

Past-President

  • Submit the Annual Report to the ASCE Committee on Younger Members (CYM)

  • Completes nomination packages for Society, MLAB, and YMC Award Applications

  • Serve as a liaison between YMF, Branch, and Section as requested

  • Mentors and assists officers with their duties as requested

  • Provides historical context to YMF events and programs as requested

President

  • Shall have general supervision over all YMF affairs, programs, and events

  • Call and preside over Officer, Executive, and Special Meetings to conduct YMF Business

  • Represent the YMF at ASCE Branch, Section, Region, and Society-Level meetings and events

  • Collaborate with the President-elect to appoint and assist Committee Chairs as requested

  • Authorized to allocate, expend, and monitor funds for YMF affairs, programs, and events

  • Maintains and updates all YMF Emails, Google Drive, and account login

 

President-Elect

  • Serve a three-year term as President-elect, President, and Past President with one year in each

  • Preside over meetings in the absence of the President or as requested

  • Become familiar with all YMF affairs, programs, and events to prepare for their term as President

  • Collaborate with the President to appoint and assist Committee Chairs as requested

  • Maintains YMF property, supplies, and materials, including the Storage Locker

  • Oversees the election and application process of new officers

  • Assists the President as deemed necessary to fulfill their duties

Vice President

  • Preside over meetings in the absence of the President and President-elect or as requested

  • Develops and maintains the Annual LA YMF Sponsorship Program

  • Oversees quality control of all sponsorships and ensures donor benefits are fulfilled

  • Assists the President as deemed necessary to fulfill their duties

 

Secretary

  • Prepares and distributes Meeting Agendas and Minutes to officers and members for all meetings

  • Maintains a current member email distribution list

  • Maintains and updates the Master Events Tracker in conjunction with the YMF Calendar

  • Oversees quality control of all publications, social media, and website

Treasurer

  • Authorized to allocate, expend, and monitor funds for YMF affairs, programs, and events

  • Maintains and monitors funds in all YMF bank accounts, payment platforms, and cash receipts 

  • Prepare and submit budgets, financial reports, and funding applications to the LA Section and other organizational entities as required 

  • Process all reimbursement requests, invoices, checks, and sponsorships promptly

  • Ensures payment of YMF Account Subscriptions

Professional Events Focus Area

Community Service Chair(s)

  • Coordinate events/activities that serve the public, better our community, and promote the Civil Engineering profession, and the visibility of our YMF in community service.

Golf Tournament Chair(s)

  • Responsible for planning and organizing the Annual LA YMF Golf Tournament

  • Coordinate venue logistics, player groupings, and industry sponsorships

Government Affairs Chair(s)

  • Plan and coordinate events for members to meet with officials on the local, state, and federal levels to promote infrastructure, including the ASCE DC Fly-In, Region 9 Fly-In, and LA Drive-In

  • Write articles for each event hosted to publish on the website

Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Chair(s)

  • Plan and organize the Annual International Women in Engineering Day (INWED)

    • Coordinate venue logistics, keynote speakers, and industry sponsorships

  • Coordinate inclusive events celebrating underrepresented groups (LGBTQ, Women, and BIPOC)

  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that curates a sense of belonging for all members

  • Maintain the JEDI Page and create event pages as needed on the website

  • Write articles for each event hosted to publish on the website

  • Plan and organize events that support the professional development of our members, such as technical presentations/workshops, project tours, and joint events with professional organizations

  • Collaborate with University Outreach Chairs to support the professional development of students

  • Write articles for each event hosted to publish on the website

Social Activities Chair(s)

  • Collaborate with MLAB to plan and organize the Annual Holiday Party

  • Coordinate the social after the Monthly Board Meetings

  • Plan and collaborate with other groups to host activities monthly (beach, hiking, camping, etc.)

  • Maintain the Socials Page and create event pages as needed on the website

  • Write articles for each event hosted to publish on the website

K-12 Outreach Chair(s)

  • Plan and organize educational outreach events for students in kindergarten through 12th grade

    • Can include organizing career day speakers, after-school projects, class presentations, engineering/science experiments, STEM programs, and technical tours.

  • Support students with applying for scholarships or college applications as requested

  • Maintain the K-12 Outreach Page and create event pages as needed on the website

  • Write articles for each event hosted to publish on the website

Scholarship Chair(s)

  • Organize and collect scholarship applications for the Student Night & Job Fair (SNJF), Engineers Week (E-Week), and International Women in Engineering Day (INWED)

    • Coordinate with volunteers for grading and with the Treasurer to distribute funds

  • Maintain the Scholarship and Award Pages and create event pages as needed on the website

​Student Night & Job Fair (SNJF) Chair(s)

  • Plan and organize the Annual Student Night and Job Fair to support students obtaining internships and jobs and recognize the accomplishments of our local universities

  • Maintain the SNJF Page and create event pages as needed on the website

  • Write articles for each event hosted to publish on the website

University Outreach Chair(s)

  • ​Serve as the liaison between YMF, Practitioner Advisors, and ASCE LA Section Student Chapters 

  • Plan and organize the Student Leadership Mixer and ASCE Convention Student Sponsorship

  • Serve as a mentor for students and provide interview prep and resume reviews as requested

  • Maintain the University Outreach Page and create event pages as needed on the website

Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition (PSBC) Chair(s)

  • Plan and organize the Annual Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition to help students learn about civil engineering and support their professional development

  • Maintain the E-Week Page and create event pages as needed on the website

  • Write articles for each event hosted to publish on the website

Elementary School Day Lead

  • Plan and organize the Elementary School Day to help students learn about civil engineering

Graphics Chair(s)

  • Create graphics to be used for YMF social media, website, and newsletter

  • Collaborate with other Chairs to create promotional materials for events and programs

Historian(s)

  • Support Board Members by taking photos/videos at YMF events and programs

    • DLSR camera provided by YMF for photos and videos

  • Ensure Board Members write articles for each event hosted to are published on the website

  • Aid in writing articles and collecting feature photos for the website and social media

  • Maintain the Awards Page and other pages as needed on the website

  • Update and maintain the YMF SmugMug Account

Social Media and Newsletter Chair(s)

  • Post and publish content for events and programs on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook

  • Create and distribute the Weekly Newsletter

  • Send reminders for events to members via YMF Discord

  • Update and maintain links posted on the YMF Linktree
