About the Event
The Le Val Lund Lecture and Student Symposium on Lifeline Infrastructure and Community Resilience intends to (1) promote interaction between engineering professionals, community leaders and organizations, educational and research institutions, and students, with a general focus around lifeline systems, and (2) improve lifeline infrastructure resilience to support resilient communities.
The Le Val Lund Lecture and Award for Practicing Lifeline Risk Reduction recognizes an individual for contributions to the practice of reducing risks to lifeline systems and preparing communities for natural and manmade hazards. The 2019 Le Val Lund Award Recipient is Bilal M. Ayyub of the University of Maryland. Bilal will give an overview of the driving forces and hazards associated with a changing climate, followed by methods for estimation of extreme events particularly related to precipitation and flooding and adaptive design within an adaptive risk management framework in the context of life-cycle engineering and economics.
The Le Val Lund Student Symposium is organized for students, researchers and professionals to have a forum to share their projects and knowledge dealing with Lifeline Infrastructures and Community Resilience. The symposium will include a mix of technical presentations from a wide variety of fields, panel discussions with industry experts, and more.
