About the Event
The Pure Water Southern California regional water recycling program is a joint effort between the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) and the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts (LACSD). The program aims to reuse purified wastewater to improve the region's water supply resilience and will entail strategic construction and retrofit of treatment facilities to create a regional water recycling infrastructure network.
The Grace F. Napolitano Pure Water Southern California Innovation Center is a demonstration plant being used by research engineers and scientists to test treatment trains to be implemented in a full-scale advanced water purification facility. Currently, the plant intakes treated wastewater and produces 500,000 gallons of purified water every day. A full-scale facility is expected to produce up to 150 million gallons of purified water daily, enough to meet the water needs of 1.5 million residents.
