As one of the largest development projects in the nation, the Hollywood Park City of Champions Revitalization Project includes the construction of a band new football stadium, performance venue, lake park, a hotel, almost a 1 million square foot of retail and office space, a 2,500 residential unit and more! Our speaker, Henrik Nazarian, P.E, VP Regional Manager of David Evans and Associates Inc. and one of the first individuals to be involved in this project gave us the history of the project. The project site was purchased in 2006. Final Engineering was done between 2010-2011. Construction Started in Summer of 2014 with Turner on board as construction contractors. The City of Champion Revitalization Project Initiative was approved by the people during the beginning of 2015. NFL approved at the beginning of 2016 and currently this project is under construction. The Challenges this project has encountered are the following: The casino was to be operating (24/7 since city revenue depends on this), Phasing and demolition schedules, unknown utilities, FAA height limits, LACDPW MTD Storm drains, over 5M of Earthwork! This presentation will soon be followed by a site visit expected late summer early Fall!
North Outfall Sewer (NOS) 6th/ Mission Emergency Repair
60-inch semi-elliptical sewer, the North Outfall Sewer (NOS), built in the 1920's, collapsed on Mission Road near the 6th Street during summer of 2016. This resulted with a bridge demolition and a overflow of 2.4 million gallons of sewage onto the streets and into our storm drains next of the Los Angeles River. Our speaker, Javier Dennis,Environmental Engineering Associate with the City of Los Angeles’ Bureau of Sanitation,presented the history of the NOS, details of the sewer collapse, mitigation and repair efforts, and current assessment and rehabilitation efforts. The lessons learned the Bureau of sanitation knows is that there is an accelerated rate of corrosion, pipe degradation is occurring at a fast pace, and changes in pipe causes changes. The bureau expects to replace the remaining 60" pipe with the 63" or 66" or circular RCP.
