Girl Scouts Day at Cal Poly Pomona
Girl Scouts Day was hosted at Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday, November 10, 2018. The event included a panel of student engineers and a young engineer who spoke about their experiences as female engineers. The panel included Celeste Chan, a Girl Scouts Gold Award Recipient, Rachel McCallister, SWE President, Savannah Rodriguez, SWE Co-Outreach Chair, and Nikki Zulueta, EIT, ASCE LA YMF K-12 Co-Outreach Chair currently working at the City of LA Bureau of Engineering.
The Girl Scouts had a blast exploring through Cal Poly Pomona during the campus tour and seeing the various student engineering projects such as the concrete canoe and steel bridge. They really enjoyed playing with the Augmented Reality Sandbox which showcased a topographical map. It was a fun-filled day full of hands on activities with the kids and Cal Poly Pomona ASCE Student Chapter!
A special thank you to Colby Wong and Nicole Aquino of Cal Poly Pomona for organizing this event for the Girl Scouts! Thank you LA YMF members Chloe Gharios for extending the invitation to Celeste Chan, and Monica Morales for prepping Cal Poly Pomona with the tools needed to host 150 Girl Scouts from the Greater Los Angeles!
